Safeguarding Briefing for Ofsted Inspectors

At recent meetings and conferences and in the Surrey Bulletins , the new Ofsted briefing for section 5 inspectors on safeguarding children, issued in September, has been particularly highlighted. In case you don't have access to these bulletins, they are featured every week in our News section. We've also created a link on our Links pages (see below) to give you access to the downloads.

In the statement below, Schools, and Governors in particular, are warned about Safeguarding and their management of the 'Single list' (also known as 'List 99').

The briefing which is available to download as a pdf file reminds inspectors that they, and schools, must have regard to 'Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education' which remains the main guidance underpinning the safeguarding duty. Make sure you have a copy and are following it. If you are challenged regarding vetting requirements for contractors, volunteers etc, you should be able to direct the inspector to advice you’ve followed there.
