About Us

The Association is administered by an Executive Committee elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. This committee meets 2-3 times a term to direct the work of the Association. Executive Committee members give their time and expertise freely to further the interests of the Association. A paid part-time administrator, who works closely with the Chairman of the Executive Committee, carries out the day-to-day work of the Association.

In 2002, an agreement was reached with the LEA where all Governing Bodies would be enrolled with the SGA and that this would be funded by the LEA. All governors of maintained schools in Surrey are therefore automatically members of the Association; Newsletters are sent to governors via schools termly. The SGA in turn is a member of the National Governors' Association, with which it maintains close links.

Whilst being careful to retain its independence, the Association is now working more closely with the Local Authority (LA) to improve the links between the Authority and governors. It is hoped to raise the profile of governors in the county and to involve more of them in the process when there are consultations.

Our funding enables us to hold two conferences for governors each year which are entirely free to delegates.

The members of the Executive are all volunteers and welcome input and involvement from members.

We are also happy to welcome new blood onto the Executive.
